Work Related Equipment

  • Truck drivers are sometimes required to have their own tools and equipment to maintain their trucks. If your employer does not provide you with these items, you can buy them on your own and include them in your claim for a deduction.

Work related travel expenses

  • As a truck driver, it won’t be unusual for you to have to sleep away from home on a regular basis. As such, the cost of travelling for work, including any expenses for meals, accommodations, fares and other expenditures, are tax deductible.

Meals and Accommodation

  • The cost of purchasing meals when working overtime (if your employer provides you with an overtime meals allowance specifically indicated on your payment statement)

  • Although truck drivers normally sleep away from home in the cab of their truck, a deduction can be made if the driver chooses to stay in an inn or motel when on the job.

  • The cost of subscribing to a magazine, journal or periodical related to your work.
